Sand Filter

Sandfilter mit Glaskugeln – effiziente Nachbehandlung in der industriellen Wasseraufbereitung.

Sand filters are simple, yet effective systems that channel water through a layer of sand to remove suspended solids and particles from the water.

IWAT sand filters are exclusively filled with filter glass beads, offering significant advantages over other granular filter materials.

The water flows from top to bottom through the filter bed, where dirt particles are mechanically retained by friction and the resulting electrical charge in the pores between the sand grains.

Why after a flotation unit like the IWAT Compact-Conus Flotation CCF? Flotation is a method for separating solids or emulsions from water by introducing air bubbles that lift solids to the surface where they are skimmed off. This method is particularly effective at removing oils, fats, and other light contaminants. However, finer particles often remain in the water after flotation, which were not completely removed. This is where sand filters come into play:

1. Improved Clarity: Sand filters remove the remaining fine suspended solids still in the water after flotation, leading to clear, particle-free liquid.
2. Reduction of Turbidity: Sand filters effectively reduce water turbidity, which is especially important when the water is used for industrial processes.
3. Flexibility and Cost-effectiveness: Sand filters are a relatively inexpensive and low-maintenance solution for further water purification after flotation.

Application:

The specific design and sizing of the sand filter depend on the facility tailored to your process, including the target water quality, flow rate, and specific contaminants that need to be removed. In industrial applications, regular maintenance and backwashing of the filter are necessary to remove the accumulation of trapped particles and maintain filter efficiency.

In summary, the use of sand filters after a flotation unit is a step towards further improving water quality, particularly for removing fine suspended solids and preparing the water for further treatment processes, its direct reuse, or discharge.
